Run through one of Earth's geological hot spots, on the rim of two volcanic craters and over black lava rock.

This thrilling adventure run takes place in Mývatn, in northern Iceland, where the North Volcanic Zone splits the American and Eurasian continental plates. Still an active volcanic area, the dramatic landscape is replete with ancient lava and steaming geysers.

Entry to the run is in combination with a package, offering one night in Reykjavík and four nights in Mývatn. This gives you multiple opportunities to explore this otherworldly island. You get the chance to visit Europe's largest waterfall, embark on a whale safari, hike through the castle-like lava formations of Dimmuborgir, and relax in a geothermally heated lagoon.

Welcome to Keflavík International Airport (KEF) in Reykjavík. As there is no set arrival time, you can book the flight that is most suitable for you.

Note that transportation from Keflavík to Reykjavík is not included in this package. Airport shuttle buses or taxi providers are available at the arrival hall.

The rest of the day is at your leisure. A tour to the Golden Circle with Tingvellir, Geysir, and Gullfoss is available to book for ones arriving in the morning or early afternoon. See Package Add-ons for more information.

A pre-night on 29 June in Reykjavík is also possible to book if you would like more time to explore the capital. See more under Pre- & post-nights.

01 JulThe Scenic West Coast & Akureyri

We'll start day two with an early hotel breakfast before we board the bus for a drive along the scenic west coast of the country with a knowledgeable guide ready to tell us all about Iceland.

We reach Akureyri in the afternoon, and will have a couple of hours to explore the city center before we continue to Mývatn to check into our hotel.

NOTE: It is possible to de-select the bus transfer from Reykjavik to Mývatn and return if you prefer to rent your own car in Iceland. See more under Important Info - Self Driving.

02 JulMývatn Route Highlights & Race briefing

Have a peek at the marathon route today through our Mývatn Highlights tour. We are taking you to spots such as the ancient lava formations of Dimmuborgir, the majestic Hverfjall crater, and the bubbling grey puddles at Hverir solfataras.

During the tour we stop for the race briefing delivered by our race officials. Here you will receive your race pack, meet the other runners, and be able to ask questions to the officials team.

In the evening, a pasta dinner prepared at the hotel awaits you for carb loading, ready for the Race Day tomorrow!

03 JulRace Day!

The Iceland Volcano Marathon is on today!

The route is going to be a challenge, but don't forget about the weather either. Although we are in Iceland during the summer months, the temperature is unlikely to rise above 15 degrees Celsius, and might be accompanied by rain. But the scenery will be majestic, no matter if there is sun or rain.

As you reach the finish line, we are going to celebrate your victory with a pizza lunch. And afterwards, you are going to return to your hotels via shuttle buses.

After a celebratory dinner of your own, as an option, you can join us for the Earth Lagoon Nature Baths in Mývatn for a relaxing end to the day, soaking in the restorative natural waters.

05 JulFarewell Iceland

We are reaching the end of our adventure today, as the morning bus drives us back south to Reykjavík for Keflavík International Airport (KEF). The expected arrival time is 14:30. Hence, it is not advisable to book your flight out of Iceland earlier than 16:30.

It is possible to book a post-night in Reykjavík if your flight connection doesn't match today, or you would like to further explore Iceland on your own.

The bus going to Keflavik Airport departs from Mývatn at 06:00. Another bus departs from Mývatn at 08:30 for those who have a post-night or wish to be dropped off in Reykjavik city instead of Keflavik Airport.

Payment

If you register more than 75 days prior to departure, you will be charged an initial 25% of the total price and the remaining 75% will be requested via a payment link 75 days prior to departure. If you register less than 75 days to departure, the full amount will be charged immediately.

The booking of a trip is binding for both the customer and the travel agency, once the deposit of 25% has been paid at the time of booking.

Pre - and post - nights in Reykjavík are available upon booking. The hotel will be at the same hotel as chosen during your 6-day package.

When booking a post-night, the bus will drop you off at your hotel on July 5th. From there, it will be your responsibility to make your way to Keflavík Airport when you return home.

Self driving

If you prefer to rent your own car in Iceland you have the possibility to de-select the bus transfer from Reykjavik to Mývatn on the 1st of July and the return transfer from Mývatn to Reykjavik/Keflavik on the 5th of July. This is done in the booking form and the package cost will be reduced.
Note that only both transfers can be de-selected - it is not possible to de-select just one of the transfers.

If the transfer from and to Reykjavik is de-selected you still have the bus transportation in Mývatn (July 2-4) included as pr. itinerary and for optional excursions if booked.

By de-selecting the bus transfer from/to Reykjavik it will be your own responsibility to arrive to Mývatn and check in at your hotel on July 1st. Equally transportation from Mývatn on July 5th will be your own responsibility.

If the bus transfer has been de-selected at the time of booking it cannot be guaranteed that it can be added later.
In case the bus transfer is not de-selected at the time of booking but it is requested to de-select it later, the request must be made no later than 75 days before the start of the tour in order to obtain the discounted package rate.
